Lily Vo

My name is Lily Vo, I'm 38 years old and I'm an entrepreneur in the Netherlands. In 1979, at 6,5 years of age I came to the Netherlands as a boat refugee and this has influenced my life considerably. 70% of the refugees didn't make it, think about it ...

It made me realize that people need each other and that one should help others that are in trouble. I've been living in the Netherlands for 32 years now, I love this country passionately because this country has given me so many opportunities and possibilities.

Entrepreneurship is not enough for me. I would also like to be socially involved. That is why I have been involved in projects to serve the community since I was 16 years old. I started out as an interpreter for the Vietnamese community. Since 2001 I've been involved in organizing educational and developmental projects for kids in schools in the province of Noord-Holland, and I try to build bridges between schools and businesses. I try to motivate these businesses to increase their social engagement and their enthusiasm for collaborating with schools. The youth has the future, their parents are potential customers. Reason enough for both groups to be in contact with each other.

I remain committed to community projects. They give me so much satisfaction and that is why I've registered for the Mrs. Globe, Ms. Earth elections.

I love original perspectives, I am Miss Earth Netherlands 2011 and I am Ms. Earth 2012 first runner-up in the international elections in Jamaica. The Miss Earth beauty pageant is recognized as one of the most important leading global beauty pageants.

One of my mottos is "Beauty For A Cause". Beauty serves the greater cause of education, development and independence, both nationally and internationally.

I believe in it!

For the Mrs. Universe beauty pageant, beauty is not just the single most important thing. Mind and personality are equally important. That appeals to me and I agree. Besides, by participating in the Mrs. Universe elections, I can raise more attention to social projects and I can interest more institutions and businesses in social involvement.

My life's motto is: no matter who you are and what you do, what matters is that you get up when you fall. What matters is that you fight for your principles and ideals. That to me is the core of one's personality. That's the strength of a woman. I have seen and learned that self awareness, independence and confidence can make women irresistible.

That strength is what makes her radiate and makes her so beautiful.

That is real beauty!

It makes no difference whether you're 18 or 80 years old.

On the link below you can read who I am, about my concerns and what I do. There are also several newspaper articles and documentaries about me. Or just Google.

On April 25, 2012 the NTR broadcasted a documentary about my life story on Nederland 2 (The Promised Land, 20:55 - 21:25).

Lily is lively and enthousiastic, let her tell her life story from boat refugee to Mrs. Universe Netherlands. She's happy and thankfull for everything that she has been granted.

Life motto

It doesn't matter who you are or what you do, what matters is that you get up when you fall down.
